WEB BASED DATA LOGGING OF UTILITY METERS

AND OTHER TELEMETERY APPLICATIONS

info@data-transfer-systems.co.uk

Data Transfer Systems is a Devon based business specialising in web based telemetry systems.

The source of the data can be devices such as  muti function power meters monitoring you mains and sub mains, it could be water, gas or other meters, or it could be temperature or other sensors.

The destination for the data could be anywhere in the world as the data is transfered over local area networks (LANs) and the internet. All that is required at the destination end is a standard internet enabled computer, no special software is required.

At the head of our system is a standard computer that runs a web sever and the meter reading and logging software.

There are available on the market electrical power meters to monitor mains incomers and sub-mains which by measuring the current, voltage and phase angle derive many other values of interest to energy managers and engineers,  these can be read over a local area network or the internet using a protocol called TCP IP MODBUS. Also 'pulse output' meters such as gas, water, and simpler electricity meters can have their signals marshalled by a programmable logic controller (PLC) and also transmitted over a network in the same way.

The head computer  communicates with the meters and runs a web server making all this data available to other computers on the network  using their web browsers.  The most recent data can be viewed, and historical data downloaded as Excel spread sheets.  Example Mimic of a Multifunction Meter

The head computer runs Linux as the operating system  with an Apache web server.
The software that handles the TCP IP MODBUS and updates the web pages is written specially for every installation and requires no setting up by the customer this allow the customer to have the functionality of the software customised to match their requirements. All software is released as 'open source' so there are no software licences required.

The Linux operating systems runs from a bootable CD so no corruption of the operating system or the software can occur. The hard drive is only used for data storage. If desired two hard drives can be fitted to duplicate the data storage for enhanced reliability.
